What is the Service?

The Healthy Lifestyle service is the lead for National Child Measurement Programme. The service provides Health Promotion, Health Interventions and Prevention in relation to Healthy Lifestyles for Children & Young People 5-19yrs.

Aim of Service

  • Manage an active caseload of overweight young people.
  • Acts as a source of advice for parents, carers, children, young people and Health Professionals to provide quality, evidence based health intervention in relation to obesity.
  • Provides, delivers and evaluates comprehensive evidence based health interventions to primary, secondary and sixth form colleges in conjunction with the School Nursing Teams.
  • Provides clinical expertise to the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Plan, Participate and evaluate on the effective delivery of a needs led, evidence based public health service.
  • To work in partnership with other agencies/ services providing Health interventions.

Service Referral - How to Refer and Criteria

Referral criteria:

  • Raised BMI – child overweight or very overweight.
  • Referrals received through Health Visiting and School Nursing Teams for 1:1 support

Expected Outcomes for the Service

  • To meet NCMP targets as set by the Government.
  • Complete an annual audit in relation to the NCMP
  • Update Operational Guidance annually.

Future Developments

  • To increase capacity to support continuity and to meet the increasing needs for the service.
  • To work with children in Special Schools and their parents and carers.
  • To look at ways of working with 16 to 18 year olds in colleges where there is currently a gap in service.
